MATTITUCK, N.Y. (AP) — Meteorologists say a severe thunderstorm that moved across eastern Suffolk County on Long Island produced a weak tornado.
Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/2aNvbKy ) reports the National Weather Service confirmed that a small, short-lived tornado was spotted in Mattituck just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Officials say wind damage was confined mainly to trees, some of which were snapped in half. They said the tornado was concentrated between Main Road and New Suffolk Avenue, close to the corridor from Cardinal Drive southeast to Blossom Bend.
