BOSTON (AP) — City officials hoping to bring the Olympics to Boston in 2024 have hit a hurdle in their plans to reach that goal.
The Boston Globe reports (http://bit.ly/1DV4RTA ) the Boston 2024 committee wants to build a temporary Olympic stadium in South Boston quickly and inexpensively. But the site the group targeted is occupied by public transit repair garages.
None of the stadium renderings produced by Boston 2024 explain how it would accommodate this transportation infrastructure. Officials acknowledge some of it cannot be moved without driving up costs or disrupting MBTA maintenance.
Boston 2024 insists that accommodating the transit infrastructure on the site will not increase costs. It says it’s already budgeted for the 36 acres of platforms and decking that it would build around the 60,000-seat stadium.
