BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Zoo has announced the birth of a female giraffe.
The 112-pound calf arrived Saturday and was named Zuri, a Swahili word meaning beautiful or lovely.
It is the second baby giraffe born at the zoo since the fall. Zuri’s half-brother, Sampson, arrived in October. Both calves were sired by a 3-year-old male named Moke.
The gestation period of giraffes is about 15 months.
