CORINTH, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Two people are dead after they crashed their car Wednesday afternoon.
The scene was cleared a few hours ago but you can still see where it happened. The car crashed into a tree on someone’s property.
“We heard a boom.”
Caroline Sutton didn’t know what happened until her son drove to the bottom of her driveway and saw a car smashed to pieces.
“They went to see if anybody needed help.”
“The 911 center got a call of a single-vehicle crash on Angel Road in the Town of Corinth,” Lt. Michael Bortell, of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, said.
It was around 3:30 p.m. when police say the vehicle was traveling south on Angel Road by Woodcrest Acres Road when it crashed into a tree.
The two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene and were identified as Genessa Marie Coon, 23, of Corinth, and Cody Fitzpatrick, 21, of Whitehall, N.Y.
Coon was the driver at the time of the crash.
“It’s very tragic when anybody loses their life particularly young adults.”
All afternoon investigators collected evidence and reconstructed the crash to try and figure out what happened. On Thursday, police say their preliminary investigation revealed that speed caused the crash. At this point, police say there is no evidence of driver impairment.
“Some people just like to push it, and they come barreling up around the corner or the curve,” Sutton said. “Sometimes they make it and sometimes they don’t.”
This time it was right in front of her home.
“I just feel so bad for the families.”
She’s sending a message to drivers.
“I just wish they would pay more attention. They could save their own lives.”
