Guilderland businesses help displaced fire victims

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) – In the spirit of the holiday season, people in one local community are making Christmas brighter for a family who lost everything in a fire.

The Bailey family is now temporarily living in Guilderland and the town is welcoming them with open arms.

A number of local businesses along with the Guilderland Food Pantry are providing them with a Christmas tree, a holiday meal, bags of presents, and a variety of gift cards.

They are a family of seven, with five children ranging in age from one to 17 years old.

“They really only needed diapers, and I said just diapers? What are they doing for Christmas? She informed me that she had nothing for Christmas, not even a Christmas tree. So I said, we’re going to put together a Christmas for them,” Sue Hennessey said. “Everybody has to have a Christmas.”

The family’s Saratoga Street home in Cohoes went up in flames back in March.
