JOHNSBURG, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Two brothers are dead after what police said was a murder-suicide.
According to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, two brothers lived in the home at 802 South Johnsburg Rd. Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, police said 76-year-old George Puglisi called 911 stating he had shot and killed his brother, 71-year-old Dennis Puglisi. He then indicated he was going to kill himself.
While still on the line, dispatch could hear responders arriving at the home followed by a gun shot.
Police found Dennis dead with a gunshot wound to the head. George was still alive with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. He was flown to Albany Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.
Neighbors who knew the siblings were in shock Wednesday night.
“They’re very quiet,” Joe Altman said. “Doesn’t happen here. My doors aren’t even locked in my house.”
Altman said the brothers mostly kept to themselves, but his few interactions with his neighbors were positive.
“They were real nice guys,” he said. “They used to come visit my mom, and my brother-in-law did some work for them.”
Police said they are looking for evidence, and the motive appeared to be a personal dispute.
