TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police are still searching for two men they say shot another man in Troy Thursday morning.
Police say 24-year-old Dezmon T. Smith of Brooklyn died of his injuries Thursday afternoon. Police are now investigating the shooting as a homicide.
Some neighbors say they heard the shots. Others coming home to find the crime scene say it’s a scary situation for them and the kids in the area.
Patty Latourette has lived on Hill Street, less than a block away from where the shooting happened, for the past 14 years.
“It was just very scary because I have a grandchild you know and it’s just like you live here it’s frightening.”
Police say it all happened around 9:10 a.m. Thursday morning.
Smith was getting into this cab when two other men shot him.
“They approached the man. It looked like some conversation ensued. He was shot and then laid down in the cab.”
Those two men then ran away down 6th Avenue and police are still looking for them.
“We’re currently out looking for suspects asking anyone who has any information or has seen anything to please give us a call.”
Police are also looking at surveillance video from homes.
Neighbors didn’t want to go on camera and couldn’t show NEWS10 ABC’s Ayla Ferrone their footage but described it to me. They say it shows the victim coming out of a yellow house and getting chased by the two suspects before they shot him.
Latourette says knowing there’s video footage of the crime makes her feel better.
“A little safer but I hope they get him.”
Her focus is still on her granddaughter and the other kids in the area.
“A bullet could have hit one of them and that’s frightening.”
She’s worried about what will happen next.
“The world we live in now it’s so violent. Each day something every time you turn on the TV it’s something.”
Those two men police are looking for are still at large.
Police are still working to identify him as well. They are also interviewing the cab driver as a witness.
Police say the shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence.
