Crews fight fire at Heritage Village Apartments in Guilderland

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Crews fought a fire at the Heritage Village Apartments in Guilderland Monday afternoon.

Everyone at the apartment complex was evacuated for several hours. Fortunately, the fire is now out.

People were let back inside but only so they can get their belongings.

When crews arrived, heavy black smoke was coming out of the roof. Multiple departments were called to the scene at around 1:30 p.m.

The fire chief says they’re still trying to determine the cause of the fire but it looks like it started in the bathroom area.

The chief says they had to break down walls in one apartment to make sure they got to all the hot spots.

Neighbors says it could have been a lot worse.

“Grabbed him, he didn’t have his shoes or anything then I saw the smoke coming out from the building out on top,” Bill Lipscomb said.
