CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) – “We were like expecting a good time at the venue. It was like the first time they ever done this type of event,” said UAlbany Junior Josh Gomez.
Josh Gomez’s night was just beginning. He was bowling and dancing at Spare Time Bowling alley in Halfmoon. But within an hour, things turned ugly.
The crowds grew so fast that the DJs decided to cut the music.
“They finally decided that they were not going to have all this amount of people there,” said Gomez.
He was there with his friend, Michael Messiha.
“The place wasn’t that big but a lot of people came. It’s more easy for conflict to initiate when there’s a lack of space,” said Messiha.
And as a result, a fight broke out.
“Somebody got hit with a bowling ball, plates were broken,” said Gomez.
It became so out of hand that multiple police departments had to come.
When deputies arrived on scene they encountered a crowd of more than 800 people inside the bowling alley.
Three people, 20-year-old Kulsum Larry, 18-year-old Lamine Diakite, and 21-year-old Eudes Pierre, were arrested for disorderly contact and number of other charges.
Though the two UAlbany Juniors still say they had a good time, they didn’t anticipate this to end their night
“It was interesting to say the least. I didn’t expect that at all,” said Messiha.
“I was like complete shock. I couldn’t understand the behavior,” said Gomez.
The flyer for the event says it was hosted by Triple O Entertainment and M.O.N.E.Y. Team LLC. Gomez says it was organized through a website and phone application called “Eventbrite” and was supposed to be a get together between SUNY Albany and SUNY Cobleskill, a first of its kind.
“It was like a party like between two schools,” said Gomez.
And he feels it had a lot of potential.
“It would have been like a very fun event but I guess things happen,” said Gomez.
The incident remains under investigation.
News10ABC did reach out to the owner of Spar Time for comment, they’re located in Vermont. We have not heard back from them at this time.
