ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A new CDTA payment program will make taking public transportation a whole lot easier for people in the Capital Region.
CDTA’s “Navigator” is a prepayment system. It includes a durable plastic smartcard and eventually mobile ticketing where customers can load fares directly onto their smartphone.
“It’s like a lot of smart cards,” Carm Basile, with CDTA, said. “You load our fare products on to the card, you manage that account as yours, you have pre-payment systems and cash value. Tap it on the fare box and away you go”
“Navigator” will make sure your balance is protected, allow auto-load capabilities and online ordering.
The smart card is the first step. The next phase will be allowing riders to load money onto a smartphone, tap it, and ride.
