Police: Woman facing DWI charges after slamming car into Veterans Park fence overnight

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A woman is facing DWI charges after police say she lost control of her car and plowed through a fence in Schenectady’s Veterans Park early Thursday morning.

Schenectady Police say the crash happened around 2:45 a.m.

Police have identified the suspect in the crash as 33-year-old Marie Ray of Albany.

Police say Ray was driving down State Street in an unregistered car without a license while speeding and using a cell phone, when she lost control of her car and crossed into the oncoming lane.

Ray drove up and over the sidewalk, taking out a tree, and continued driving into a cement barrier, moving it out of place and knocking down the steel park fencing behind it.

Police say Ray suffered only minor injuries.

Ray is facing charges for DWI, operating a vehicle with suspended registration, and aggravated unlicensed operation.

The crash left quite a mess, and it will be up to Schenectady to decide whether Ray will be on the hook for the cost of repairs.
