Chatham Central School remains on the lookout for possibly rabid raccoon

CHATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Chatham Central School District remains on the lookout for a raccoon, possibly rabid, which delayed school dismissal on Wednesday.

Witnesses say the raccoon was spotted lurking around the Chatham Middle School on Wednesday prompting an alert from the district.

The district says students were held in place after the raccoon was spotted on Library Place.

Students were dismissed and law enforcement was on scene to ensure student safety.

On Thursday, the school has asked officers to watch the front and back of the school during arrival time until the raccoon is caught.
