ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – With the holidays fast approaching, shipping companies are working harder and faster than ever to ensure Christmas gifts arrive on time.
Many are still sending last minute gifts to friends and family across the country. UPS said it is going to be sending at least 30 million packages every single day leading up to the holiday.
Many experts believe 2016 will be a record breaking year for carriers delivering packages. Workers at the UPS store in Westgate Plaza in Albany have noticed.
“Today was about double what we’ve done every day this month so far,” manager Christian Cortes said.
Cortes said there is no other time of year for business like Christmas.
“Hectic but fun,” he said. “Makes the day go by quick.”
Part of the rush was due to Monday being the last day packages could be guaranteed to arrive to its destination by Christmas morning.
UPS stops guaranteeing that service just because there is so much going on, and weather can play a factor,” Cortes said.
But there are still other options available.
With three-day, two-day and overnight shipments, gifts will make it on time, but it will cost more. The price breakdown is dependent on varying factors.
“It’s weight, dimensions and zip code,” Cortes explained. “Depends on where you send to. Some areas are more expensive.”
The best option is to keep things as compact as possible.
“If you have a really light package, but it’s really big, you’re still getting charged like it’s a pretty big, hefty package,” Cortes said.
The UPS store said it will be open Christmas Even until noon and will be closed on Christmas Day.
