SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (NEWS10) – It’s officially one week until Christmas and Hanukkah so this weekend is a busy time for holiday shopping. But did today’s weather stop people from heading out?
“This is the day, this is the day, so getting 98 percent of it done today,” said shopper Kim Ireland.
Kim Ireland always planned to do some holiday shopping in Saratoga Springs on Saturday and some morning snow wasn’t going to stop her.
“We live in Upstate New York; we’ve got to expect the snow so it’s part of living here. It’s the beauty of living here,” said Ireland.
But she wasn’t the only one. Tom Salisbury made it out too.
“This morning we weren’t sure if we’d be coming but it cleared up, the roads were all pretty clear,” said Salisbury.
Shoppers like Ireland and Salisbury relieved store owners like Marianne Barker of impressions of Saratoga.
“We woke up this morning going oh boy this is going to be a washout,” said Marianne Barker, owner of Impressions Saratoga.
Barker says they were quiet early on but that all changed around 1 o’clock.
“The snow today it’s so Christmassy and Saratoga’s such a pretty spot, it definitely, people came out,” said Barker.
A similar case, for Chris Spenello, the owner of the shoppe.
“Not getting as much traffic, but we’re still getting traffic,” said Spenello.
Shoppers though didn’t seem to mind.
“It’s good for us. It’s not too crowded, in and out of the stores real quick you know, no problem,” said Salisbury.
And despite having to walk through a little bit of snow, for Ireland, it was all worth it.
“I’ll do my holiday shopping come rain, snow, sleet. I’ll just have to be careful about it,” said Ireland.
If you still need to go shopping and you missed out because of the weather, you still have seven days left.
