Fighters weighing in ahead of UFC Fight Night

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Gearing up for the first UFC fight night in our area, Thursday morning fighters weighed-in so they can enter the ring Friday night at the Times Union Center.

Tickets are selling quickly for the event but NEWS10 ABC got a sneak peek at some of the fighters on the card.

The main event will pit heavyweight’s Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis against Shamil Abdurakhimov.

If the name doesn’t give it away, Adurakhimov is from Russia. He said through an interpreter that he loves fighting in the states, that he respects Lewis, but feels 100 percent ready for the bout.

As for Lewis who you may remember visited last month, he doesn’t share the same respect for his opponent.

“Whenever they gave me this guy right here, I really didn’t know what to say but maybe they’re just trying to give me a gift, or maybe they know something that I don’t know,” Lewis said. “So I’m taking this fight seriously, knowing it’s the main guy even though I don’t know how to say his last name.”

Lewis, who has won four straight fights, said he’s going to push the pace and try to end this one in the first round.

Tickets are still available for fight night Friday at the TU Center.
