Police: Man having more than $2K in counterfeit money tried to buy a pair of sneakers

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man they say had more than $2,000 in counterfeit money.

Police say Milo Martinez, 25, of Schenectady, N.Y., met up with a local man he met on the app “Letgo” at the Hannaford on Clifton County Road with the intent of buying a pair of sneakers. When they met, Martinez is accused of paying for the sneakers with counterfeit money.

Responding officers located Martinez a short distance away inside a vehicle.

Martinez is accused of having $2,350 in counterfeit bills and more than three ounces of marijuana. He was charged with first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana.

He was arraigned and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail in lieu of $5,000 or $10,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Sheriff’s Department was assisted by members of New York State Police.
