COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Oh, Christmas tree!
Tis the season for the popular spruce to take center stage in homes once again, but with the trees come potential fire hazards if they’re not properly taken care of.
Fire officials say if the tree is left without water for three weeks in room temperature, it only takes a minute for it to become a raging inferno.
In the video above, a mock living room is put together to show you what can happen in just 63 seconds.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, on average there are about 210 home fires that are started by Christmas trees.
That results in about seven deaths per year, multiple injuries and $17.5 million in property loss.
