Crews respond to structure fire in Albany, two homes heavily damaged

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Firefighters battled flames Saturday night as a structure fire stretched from one building to the other.

Albany Fire Department received the call for a structure fire on Ontario Street around 11 p.m. Saturday night. When they arrived to the scene, they saw heavy smoke and flames and called it a two-alarm fire.

The fire began in one home and traveled to the home next door, according to Albany fire officials. One of the homes was partially occupied at the time.

Crews say they were able to get the fire under control in about an hour.

Albany Red Cross says they provided immediate aid to seven people, including two adults and five children.

Albany Fire Department says one firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to Albany Medical Center.

The buildings both sustained heavy damage, but are awaiting evaluation to see if they are repairable.
