ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – It’s the true kickoff of the holiday season for the Capital Region and it happens this Sunday December 4th.
The tree lighting ceremony kicks off at 1pm at the State Capital.
The rink is going to be filled with kids and adults skating to the music, everything starts at 1pm leading up to the fireworks show at around 5:30.
But the real star of the day is the huge 45 foot Colorado Spruce tree donated by the Bowman family of Cloverick, NY. We all have seen the Rockefeller tree but wait until you see this one. It’s going to be lit up at around 5:15 on Sunday afternoon.
Throughout the day and into the evening there’s going to be so much to take part in.
- There are free skate rentals all night until 8pm
- Free horse and carriage rides up on the plaza, if it’s too cold, there will be free train rides downstairs in the concourse.
- Tuba Christmas will perform, flute performances
- The State Museum is hosting the Taste NY Festival, and that’s just a handful of the attractions.
With so much going on, all at the same time, it’s a must that you and your family come and join in on the fun.
“For many families this is a family tradition, they do it every year, they started out coming as young people then they started having new families and they started bringing their kids. Now they are bringing their kids and their grandkids; we’ve been doing this for a long time. So everybody talks about it, it’s really the start of the holiday season here,” said Heather Groll, Spokesperson for New York State Office of General Services.
The News10ABC morning crew will also be out to share in the festivities and we would love to see you here, so come and join us.
We are just two days away from all of the fun and excitement and it all starts at 1pm.
