ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police have identified the victim in that Thanksgiving Day shooting at an Albany nightclub.
At the time of the shooting, there was a private party hosted by a DJ going on inside Rocks.
Police say the shooter knew his target would be inside and somehow he got past security at the door with a gun, walked in, and began shooting.
Albany Police say 26-year-old Wendell Hill or “Nuke” as he was better known was the shooter’s target.
The father of four from Troy was killed and three innocent bystanders were wounded with non-life threatening injuries.
Police were quick to squash any fears that the shooting at the popular gay nightclub was an attack on the LGBT community, saying it was an isolated incident during a private party.
“The motive for this is still unclear,” Albany Officer Steve Smith said.
Smith says believe they know who the Rocks Nightclub shooter is and they are looking for him.
“We still are actively investigation the case. We are asking for anyone who hasn’t come forward yet, to please come forward with information,” Smith said.
However, the answers to questions like, who killed her son, or why, seem to hold little meaning to Wendell Hill’s distraught mother, who told me nothing will bring her son back.
“He’s gone and nothing’s going to bring him back.”
She said the shooting has left Wendell’s young children without their father, and one child on the way whom he will never meet.
Anyone with further information about the incident is asked to call the Albany Police Detective Division at (518) 462-8039.
