DELMAR, N.Y. (NEWS10) – We are learning more about a man who died in a car accident early Saturday morning.

“No mother should ever have to do this,” Thomas’s mother April Rowley said.

April Rowley is heartbroken over the loss of her son.

“There was not one day of his life that I wasn’t proud of him,” Rowley said.

Bethlehem police say a call came in around 3:20 a.m. Saturday for a vehicle that had crashed into the trees on Bender Lane by Stonewall Lane in Delmar.

They say 20-year-old Thomas Brown of Guilderland was the lone occupant and driver of the vehicle.

Police are still investigating the crash but say speed played a factor.

Brown was transported to Albany Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“He just loved cars from the time that he was a little boy…like Matchbox cars, and his room was full of them,” Rowley said.

Thomas loved cars so much that his mom says he worked as a valet.

Friends and Family of Thomas Brown held a major gathering in the Walmart parking lot in Glenmont Saturday evening.

The Lot was filled with hundreds of cars as an honor to a man they loved so much, not a surprise to his older brother, Gregory.

“He touched so many people,” Gregory Brown Jr. said.

He says Thomas cared about every person he met.

“He had this goofy laugh, you know goofy smile that was just so contagious,” said Brown Jr.

Loved ones say Brown was very passionate about cars, and that he always made people smile and laugh.

Most importantly though, they say he was the kind of person who spread happiness and joy to everyone he met.

“Didn’t matter what mood you were in, when he walked in the room you couldn’t help but smile because he wouldn’t have it any other way,” Rowley said.

Now his family is sticking together as they remember a life they held so dear.

“He’s going to be here forever and he’s here all the time,” Rowley said.

As they remember Thomas, his mom wants to send out a special message to everyone.

“Just slow down for your mom, for your dad, for your friends, for all the people that you’re going to leave behind,” Rowley said.

Thomas Brown leaves behind his mom, brother, sister and nephew.
