Gathering held for victim in fatal one-car crash in Delmar

DELMAR, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Bethlehem Police are continuing their investigation for a fatal one-car crash that occurred early Saturday morning.

Police say they received a report around 3:20 a.m. that a vehicle had crashed into the trees on Bender Lane in the area of Stonewall Lane.

Emergency crews were able to quickly extricate the only occupant of the vehicle, a male driver.

Police have identified the driver as Thomas Brown, 20, of Guilderland. They say he was traveling northbound on Bender Lane when he lost control of his vehicle.

Brown was transported to Albany Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A gathering was held later Saturday afternoon in a parking lot of a Glenmont Walmart in support for Brown. Police say they were on scene during the gathering as a safety precaution.

Police say speed is confirmed to be a significant factor in this crash, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Bender Lane between Devon Road and Oakwood Road has since reopened.
