RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Some local cheer squads have qualified for this year’s national tournament held at Walt Disney World, but the trip is expensive, and with the holiday’s approaching, money to get the cheerleaders to the tournament is tight.
Raising the funds might be difficult, but the Rensselaer Rams JV cheerleading squad say their cause is worth it.
Disney World often called the “Happiest place on Earth” but the girls of the cheer squad will be all business, as they compete against some of the best cheer teams in the country.
The trip to Nationals comes after a long, hard-fought season of competition, and the fight isn’t over yet.
The girls need to raise about $1000 per teammate. There are twenty girls on the team, meaning about $20,000 is needed to cover all the costs of the trip.
The squad is going to do all they can to make that happen. They’re holding a wreath sale, selling wreaths for veterans, and holding a ziti dinner next Tuesday November 22.
“I cannot tell you the challenges that they have faced during the course of this season from injuries and illnesses,” said Judy Stasack, a team mom. “They’ve really been very really resilient and tough, probably a lot tougher than they know. So I think the biggest thing they’re getting out of it is that they’ve actually proven to themselves more than anybody that they can do it; that they can push themselves and they have.”
For those who can’t make it to the fundraisers in person, the Rams have set up a gofundme page, hoping to pick up some donations online.

The Albany Falcons JV squad also qualified for the Nationals in Disney World and are also looking for help covering travel costs for the trip.
