GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Luckily, no one was injured after a shot fired inside the Crossgates Mall sent shoppers running Saturday afternoon, but whoever pulled the trigger is still on the loose.
Guilderland’s Police Chief says the alleged shooter did not come to the mall with the intent to shoot it up. She says Saturday’s incident was the result of an altercation between two people that escalated.
Police say one shot was fired Saturday and they’re not going to stop until they find the person who they say put hundreds of people in danger.
The incident happened around 2:20 p.m. Saturday near the Apple store.
Security footage shows shoppers running for safety and within seconds store gates start to go down as store operators were told to go into lock out mode.
Some shoppers were stuck inside the stores for six hours as tactical teams made their way through every store in the mall.
Police have yet to release the security footage of the suspect opening fire, but investigators say the suspect is a black male six feet tall and weighing 200 pounds.
Investigators are asking anyone with photos or video from inside the mall Saturday to share them with police, regardless of when or where that day they were taken.
In the rush to reach safety, many shoppers dropped their bags and ran, leaving behind purses and other personal belongings. Police say if you left anything behind at the mall to get in touch with Guilderland Police, or check back in at the last store you were in.
