The reality behind Virtual Reality headsets

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Virtual reality is about to become the next big thing and don’t be surprised if a VR headset shows up on a holiday wish list.

Describing what you see and feel when you put on a VR headset can be hard.

“It makes you feel like you’re in Disney World,” said one person at Best Buy.

“You could be scaling Himalayan Mountains,” said Beshawn Soogrim an assistant sales manager at Best Buy. “You moving your hands and you feel immersed.”

When the geeky Google “go on”, the real world disappears and virtual reality takes over with a 360 view of any game or experience you choose.

“A few years ago VR was just a novelty,” said Nolan.

Samsung, Sony, Facebook, and Google all have headsets on the market. It’s already huge for gamers but in the next couple of months, you might see it on your child’s holiday wish list.

Soogrim said, “I’m seeing families.”

Some of the top options we checked out were Sony PlayStation VR headset for the PS4.

Also the much hyped Oculus Rift by Facebook, which requires a high powered computer and top of the line specs.

There’s even an option for your phone with Samsung’s gear VR.  You can plug your Samsung phone right into it, bringing your 2D world into a 3D one. When you move your head so too does the world around you!

Buying into virtual reality could set you back a few hundred dollars. The Oculus Rift sells for $600. PlayStation’s VR is about $400 and if you have the right phone you can spend a $100 on a Gear VR  to plug and play with your phone.

To add to the list of headsets already on the market, Google $79 Daydream headset just hit stores on Thursday.
