Police seeking suspect in Joy Wok Restaurant attempted robbery

GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Police are asking for help from the public in identifying the man who they say attempted to rob the Joy Wok Restaurant in Gloversville while armed with a handgun.

Police say a man approached the front counter of the Joy Wok Restaurant around 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday and demanded money from an employee.

The employee says the man displayed a small handgun.

Police say the man left the restaurant after the employee told him there was no money and that police were on their way.

The suspect is described as being in his mid to late 20’s, tall with a heavy build, wearing a red sweatshirt and jeans.

Although the suspect concealed part of his face, the employee told police she believes him to be either Hispanic or a light skinned black man from what she could see.

Police say no one was injured during the attempted robbery.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Gloversville Police desk at 773-4506 or the Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers. Police are hoping someone in the area may have a surveillance camera.
