RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Veterans Day is right around the corner, on Friday, Nov. 11, so some local students are showing their appreciation for those who serve.
There was a wreath laying ceremony at the American Legion Posts 12-31 and 16-83 in Rensselaer.
Students from the Doane Stuart School honored veterans with songs and student speeches on what freedom means to them. The students also led everyone in saying the Pledge of Allegiance and singing My Country Tis of Thee.
“We could tell kids about things and we do, but given the chance, we want them to do something about what they learn, to experience something so have the vets here and talk to them and listen to them,” said Head of school, Pamela Clarke.
About 55 students from third and fourth grade participated in the event.
The school decided to celebrate on Wednesday because schools will be closed in observance of Veterans Day.
