PENNSYLVANIA (NEWS10) — Pennsylvania’s governor is fighting the opioid epidemic.
On Wednesday, Governor Tom Wolf signed a pack of legislations that will combat its drug problems.
Many medical associations also assisted with the bills.
State officials strengthened its prescriptions drug monitoring program, which includes placing a limit on some prescriptions.
Wolf also said state officials are working on developing opioid treatment centers throughout the state.
“These bills will allow us to continue to help our citizens suffering from substance use disorders and strengthen our ability to identify those who are suffering from addiction and it will help us remove a huge source of readily available and over-prescribed opioids,” Gov. Wolf said.
Another bill signed Wednesday will limit minors to a seven day prescription of opioid pills and would require doctors to take a number of steps before issuing the first prescription.
