SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Schenectady police are investigating the shooting death of a man and woman who neighbors say were dating.
Wayne Goodwin, 40, and Desire Pagan, 39, were found dead. On Friday, police say the shooting was domestic and was a murder-suicide.
Whatever did happen, took place on the second-floor apartment of the home.
The downstairs neighbor who said the woman, who she called Desire, was a “sweetheart” and had two kids — A 4-year-old and a 15-year-old who were home at the time of the shooting.
The same neighbor said she heard what she thought were fireworks around 9:30 Wednesday night.
That’s when police responded to 401 Shannon Street. Inside, Goodwin and Pagan were pronounced dead.
A source tells NEWS10 ABC that a gun was recovered from inside. A black SUV was towed away.
Neighbors say they were shocked to learn that this tragedy happened so close to home.
“It’s a very peaceful neighborhood,” said neighbor Lamont Chapmen.
One mother, Jazmin Jacobs, says she moved here from the other side of the city because she heard nothing but good things about this neighborhood.
“It just kind of threw me off. I’ve been here for a month. I haven’t seen anything. I haven’t heard anything really bad,” said Jacobs. “I have a son, he’s four. We thought we were moving to a better place.”
Evidence technicians were at the scene for hours, trying to piece it all together.
Police say that the public is not in danger. An update is expected to be released Thursday evening.
