TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – More road closures are scheduled in Troy Wednesday as filming continues on the new James Franco movie The Pretenders.
The production is causing quite the buzz around Russell Sage College as parts of campus are transformed into set locations for the film.
Many students and faculty say they’re excited to have the cast and crew on campus, and are honored the movie will showcase the beauty of the college’s grounds.
Onlookers on Tuesday were able to catch glimpses of some of the actors in the film, and watched as the crew unloaded equipment from production trucks.
The set pieces and costumes seemed to indicate that the film is some kind of period piece, set during the 70s or 80s.
For the second day in a row, filming is causing parking restrictions and road closures near the Russell Sage campus.
- First Street will be closed from Congress Street to Division Street from 1-10 p.m.
- Division will be closed from First Avenue to River Street from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.
“The Pretenders is not the first movie to film in the Collar City. The low-budget feature Derailed filmed on the Russell Sage campus just last month. Scent of A Woman, The Age of Innocence, and The Emperor’s Club, were all also filmed in Troy.
These feature-film productions are drawn to New York tax breaks and sales tax exemptions set aside for qualified production companies producing feature films or television series in the state.
