COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Passengers have been identified and charges have been given after several crews responded to a tavern late Friday night for a reported car accident and fire.
Colonie Police confirmed the incidents took place at the Blessings Tavern on 1116 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Colonie at around 11:04pm.
A 2006 BMW, driven by 18-year-old Michael Carr, went off of Consaul Rd and into the lot of Blessing’s Tavern.
Carr then hit a pick up truck and another BMW which were both parked next to the building.
The force of the crash sent the 2006 BMW underneath the pickup truck and both vehicles went through the wall of Blessing’s, bursting into flames.
The vehicle driven by Carr burst into flames and burned against the outside of the building. Both the driver, 18-year-old Michael Carr of Colonie, and the 16-year-old passenger Nico Dinovo were able to escape the burning vehicle.
At the time of the accident, it was reported that at least 30 patrons were inside the tavern.
A cook and one patron were taken to Albany Med with non-life threatening. Carr was also taken to Albany Med with non-life threatening injuries.
The 16-year-old passenger was taken to Albany Med with very serious injuries and then flown to the Westchester Burn Unit, where those injuries are believed to be severe.
Heavy smoke could be seen from miles away. Police, fire, National Grid and neighbors all gathered outside the scene to watch.
The building sustained heavy fire damage.
Watervliet-Shaker Road has reopened to traffic.
Michael Carr has been charged with Vehicular Assault 2nd (Class E Felony), Reckless Endangerment 1st (Class D Felony) and Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs (Class A Misdemeanor).
Carr was arraigned on the charges and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday November 2nd at 6pm in Colonie Town court.
