NEW YORK (NEWS10) – The New York Police Department wants to make sure illegal guns stay off the streets so they’re trying something new. They are planning to melt the guns and recycle the metal.
Police will melt down 3,000 seized guns this week at an undisclosed location. Some have praised the plan as common sense, others say it’s unnecessary.
The NRA says the guns should be sold like other confiscated assets.
But Police Commissioner James O’Neil says his team has worked too hard to get the guns off of the streets in the first place.
