Colonie structure fire kills three canines, one male transported

COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Three canines are dead and one person is injured after a structure fire Saturday evening in Colonie.

Colonie Fire Coordinator Richard Haack says the call came in at 9:41 p.m. Saturday for a structure fire at 53 Osborne Road.

West Albany, Fuller Road and Colonie Village Fire Departments were all originally dispatched. Shaker Road and Latham each sent an additional fire engine.

Upon arrival, there was a heavy fire condition coming from the back of the house.

Haack says crews rescued a 66-year-old man who was transported to a local hospital. They were unable to save three canines in the home.

“By the amount of heat and smoke that were coming out the windows, it’s probably got a lot of heat and smoke damage throughout the whole house and just fire damage on the rear section of the house,” Haack said.

Firefighters got the fire under control in about 20 minutes. At this time, investigators are trying to find out what caused the fire.
