Major chemical spill reported in Kansas

ATCHINSON, Kan. (ABC NEWS) – Residents are being advised to shelter in place Friday after a chemical spill at a plant.

Atchison County Emergency Management said residents should keep their doors and windows closed, as well as turn off furnaces.
Officials said there was a chemical leak at MGP Ingredients.

The city manager said the leak has been mitigated. It was apparently caused when a delivery to the plant was placed in the wrong tank and caused a reaction.

Authorities have not identified the chemical.

Residents have reported seeing a white fog.
