Man accused of bringing illegal drugs into hospital’s birth center

PHILMONT, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A man is facing multiple drug charges on Thursday after bringing illegal substances into a local hospital’s birth unit.

34-year-old James Rivenburg from Philmont is facing charges. He is a father of a newborn at the hospital.

Police say he brought heroin, nearly a pound of marijuana, three hypodermic needles, and over a $1,000 cash to the obstetrics floor of Columbia Memorial Hospital on Tuesday.

The mother is not facing any charges. He was arraigned in Hudson City Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail.

He is expected back in court on Friday.

Police say they are still investigating the incident.
