(NEWS10) – The football teams of Stillwater and Mechanicville High School will meet in the playoffs on Friday night for the first time in the rivalry’s history.
Mechanicville lost to Stillwater in the annual Indian Bowl two weeks ago. But the Red Raiders said the upcoming game is not the Indian Bowl Part II. Instead, they said it’s the Revenge Bowl Part I.
“You know, there’s no bragging rights with sectionals, but there’s definitely bragging rights saying ‘You might have our Indian Bowl, but we definitely, got the playoff win,’” Mechanicville head coach Erik Smith said.
The Red Raiders are confident because as soon as the Indian Bowl ended, they knew they might have another shot at the Warriors.
“We weren’t that mad,” quarterback Dan Motta said. “We were still kind of upbeat about it and not trying to get anyone down.”
“If you felt like you didn’t do what you were supposed to, you better make up for it this time because there’s no other second chances after this,” Smith said.
Yet the Warriors plan on doubling down.
“Make no mistake – our kids are going to be ready and equally as fired up,” Stillwater head coach Ian Godfrey said.
How it will turn out is anyone’s guess.
