Officials break ground on new Rensselaer riverfront esplanade

RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Some major development is coming to a local riverfront.

Rensselaer officials gathered on Tuesday to break ground on the $3.1 million riverfront esplanade, which is located at the former Rensselaer High School site on Broadway.

The location would have been the future site of a casino had the city won the bid over Schenectady.

The open space will include a new 1.5 acre park; 1,000 feet of riverfront park; a bike path; and the potential to hold outdoor summer concerts.
