ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – On October 13, Troopers responded to I-87 in the city of Albany for a report of a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle.
The incident occurred at around 8:18pm in the southbound lane of 787, just south of Exit 2, in the roadway portion of the interstate where the pedestrian was walking.
Billie Tunis, 47, of Ghent was pronounced dead at the scene by the Albany County Coroner and taken to Albany Med for a later autopsy.
It is unknown at this time why she was walking on I-87.
The driver of the vehicle, John Kalamaras, 29, of Albany, was not hurt and was driving a 2007 Toyota.
State Police members of the uniform patrol, BCI and Collison Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene as part of the active investigation which has not been completed nor have any charges been field against the driver.
Officials ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen a pedestrian walking along Interstate 787 to call them at 518-783- 3211.
