MENTOR, OHIO (ABC NEWS) — This mom is definitely winning the best homemade Halloween costume award.
Stephanie Pokorny, of Mentor, Ohio, crocheted an elaborate E.T. costume for her nearly 2-year-old son, Jack, and photos of it are going viral.
“My son is going to be 2 in November. So, really he’s at the mercy of my whims and desires at this point,” Pokorny joked to ABC News. “My husband and my sons, I have four sons, they generally do some kind of collaboration costume. Every year, we try to come up with an idea and I always try to outdo myself from the prior year. I try to make everything. I grew up in the ’80s, so basically anything that came out in that time I have ingrained love for, so naturally I went with E.T.”
Pokorny is a professional crocheter who runs the website Crochetverse, where she posted the photos of her adorably alien-like little boy. It now has nearly 4,000 shares and more than 1,000 likes.
Despite the intricacy, creating the costume took her only four days.
“I have been blessed to become pretty quick over the years,” she said. “Before I ever start something, I sort of play it over in my head for a good week or two. I started that costume last Friday and I finished on Monday. I finished it in four days. I really have it made in my brain and then I have to spit it out in my hands.”
As for how she could ever top this E.T. costume in the future, “Lord knows,” she said with a laugh.
“I’m going to have to start now and pray to high heaven some idea pops into my head,” Pokorny said. “I’ll have to see if anything emerges over the next year that super inspires me.”
