Schenectady woman stranded in Florida due to pending hurricane

ORLANDO, Fla. (NEWS10) – A Schenectady woman is in Florida for vacation, but her plans have been ruined because of Hurricane Matthew.

Kelly Gorman flew to Florida last Saturday to enjoy her one week vacation at Disney World. What was meant to be an exciting vacation has taken a different turn.

She took cell phone video shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday that showed winds moving at 10 miles per hour and the rain starting to come down.

“Magic Kingdom, Disney Springs, EPCOT – all of your major Disney parks are closed,” she told NEWS10 ABC over the phone. “They started taking guests out around 4:30.”

Gorman was supposed to fly back to the Capital Region on Saturday, but Southwest Airlines sent her a text message that stated her flight was cancelled.

“Being that I flew down here, I have no mode of transportation to go off of Disney property,” she said.

Other guests, like Gorman, are stuck at the All Start Music resort.

“Nobody from Disney has given us any notices, yet,” she said.

She sent NEWS10 a photo that shows a long line of guests picking up their free meal. She said it was nothing but “chaos and frustration.”

“So our food court is closed, and we’re sending all the Disney employees home, but it’s like, well, what do you do with your guests,” she said.
