ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Major renovations started on Wednesday at the Times Union Center.
Walk by the TU Center this week, and you’ll notice it’s a work in progress.
On Wednesday, with their hard hats on and hammers in hand, county leaders like Dan McCoy pounded away to officially kick off the $19.6 million project in what will be a brand new atrium. The work will take time as workers revamp the 26-year-old arena.
McCoy says everything should be done by Fall 2017.
Despite the noise and appearance around some parts of the arena, crowds will be able to enjoy shows, concerts, and even sporting events.
In addition, the NCAA reopened its bidding process to find new locations for seven championship games after they were pulled from North Carolina. The TU is in the running, and the NCAA president said they will announce the new sites on Thursday.
