SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – As October is known as a month of awareness, Schenectady held its ribbon cutting ceremony for its new peace garden.
The peace garden is provided by Soroptimist International of Schenectady as a place of peace and contemplation in remembrance of the victims of domestic violence and human trafficking.
The goal of the organization is to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
“Well it’s a place of peace, and we want to bring awareness to the victims of domestic violence and also to the work that is being done not just by the Soroptimist Club of Schenectady but by all the organizations and individuals that work to improve the lives of women and girls,” Donna Gigone, President of Soroptimist of Schenectady, said.
The club is committed to human rights for all people and in particular, to advance the status of women.
October 4th is now officially a designated holiday in Schenectady.
