SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An event known as the ‘Silver Jubilee’ not only honors, but unites Boy Scout Troops near and far.
Games, friends and cannons – It’s like every kid’s dream, right?
“It’s a lot of fun and there’s a lot of actitivies,” said an attendee. “There’s a lot of people we can meet and have fun.”
It’s the local Boy Scout Council celebrating 25 years with the Silver Jubilee event, complete with exhibits, vendors, and scouts from across our region.
Each has their favorite part about the great outdoors.
“I like to be a boy scout because you get to go hiking and you get to go camping. You get to do all kinds of stuff,” said a Boy Scout member.
For Drew Chesney, it’s always been a part of who he is.
“I’ve been involved with scouting since I was a Cub Scout actually, went up to become an Eagle Scout and got heavily involved with this about five or six years ago,” said Chesney, an organizer of the event.
The event has grown bigger each and every year.
“This year is over a year in the making. With volunteers helping us out to put this together, it’s the 25th anniversary of the council,” said Chesney.
However, the goal remains the same: To bring kids together and show them the world waiting right outside their door.
“This is fantastic,” Chesney said. “It’s great that we can get 2,000 kids away from the TV. Interacting with each other outside, and being outside is really what scouting is about. Being outdoors.”
