SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Mayor Gary McCarthy announced his proposed city budget for 2017 on Friday.
In his budget, Mayor McCarthy says homeowners will see a 4 percent dip in property taxes thanks to the projected revenue from casino under construction at Mohawk Harbor.
The casino project may be why people will still a dip in their property taxes. The project is expected to generate $2.7 million for the city.
“We’re seeing two new hotels, town homes, tech office buildings, new apartments, and retail in the casino. That is adding 1,200 jobs for this community,” Mayor McCarthy said.
Mayor McCarthy also added funds to add more summer youth programs and to demolish more vacant properties.
The city council will vote on his budget at their meeting next month.
