Landlord admits to stealing checks from tenant who suffered stroke

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A man pleaded guilty to stealing his tenant’s personal checks after the victim suffered a stroke.

Edward Thomas, 55, admitted to stealing the checks and cashing them after forging the victim’s signature in Albany in 2015. The Albany County District Attorney’s Office said Thomas drained the victim’s bank account over the course of a few months.

Thomas faces two to six years in prison and will have to pay back $31,000 in restitution when he’s sentenced in November.
