US, Iraq reportedly agree on plan to send 500 more American troops

WASHINGTON (CNN) – The U.S. and Iraq have agreed on a plan that could send more American troops overseas.

At least 500 additional U.S. troops will be sent to Iraq in the coming days to help Iraqi forces retake Mosul from ISIS.

A U.S. defense official tells CNN, the plan has been under discussion for weeks, but President Obama and Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi have now agreed on the details.

According to officials, this is expected to be the final addition of U.S. military troops in Iraq.
