NEW YORK (CNN) – Monday night’s debate is now the most-watched debate in American history.
More than 80 million people tuned in to see Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump face off, setting a new record in the 60-year history of televised presidential debates.
Nielsen traditionally only measures viewers who watch traditional TV at home, so those who watched at parties or bars or even online are not counted. It also doesn’t include the people who watched the debate on PBS and CSPAN.
That means the actual number of people who watched the debate is significantly higher than 80 million.
