Driver in fatal Amsterdam crash has been identified

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Amsterdam Police released the name of a woman who died in a motor vehicle crash in Amsterdam Friday morning.

The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m.

Police say 64-year-old Joanna Maciarello was driving this red pickup truck south on Market Street when she crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer that was stopped at a red light.

Maciarello was pinned inside the cab of the pickup truck and was extricated by members of the Amsterdam police department.

She died as a result of the accident.

The driver of the tractor-trailer 47-year-old Christoper Baker was not injured and will not face any charges.

Market Street was closed for several hours as a result of the crash, but is now back up and running.

“It caused a traffic issue with traffic on Route 30 and 67 which intersect just above where the accident was. But we were able to reroute traffic around the area and traffic was slow but everything is moving.”

Police are still trying to determine exactly why the crash happened.

The road has been reopened.
