ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – Protests will continue Thursday at the College of Saint Rose.
Faculty and students are not happy with the handling of the school’s debt crisis which resulted in the proposed cuts of 23 faculty members and 28 academic programs.
News10ABC was first at Saint Rose back in November when the college announced that they were facing a $9 million deficit. They said the only way to get back on their feet would be program cuts and faculty layoffs.
Well as you can imagine, that didn’t go over well with the students who pay some $40,000 a year to live and learn at Saint Rose.
They immediately started holding protests, one being a funeral march with gravestones labeled with programs and faculty members.
With classes back in session, they said the fight continues. They are calling for the President of the college to step down saying her decision undermined academic freedom and rendered tenure virtually meaningless.
The protest is set to happen from 5-7 Thursday night.
