Authorities are working with officials in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates to get access to her and to ask questions about what she knew, the official said.
NEW YORK, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The man accused of planting bombs in New York City and New Jersey is waking up in a hospital bed this morning, but he won’t be a free man any time soon.
Investigators are hoping to get more information out of Ahmed Khan Rahami on Tuesday… except he’s been tight lipped. He’s reportedly not even willing to confirm his name with investigators.
The 28-year-old is recovering after being hit in that shootout Monday, but he will very likely go from his hospital bed, straight to a jail cell.
Ahmed Khan Rahami is charged right now with five counts of attempted murder. He is being held on more than $5 million bail.
While officers try and pry more info out of him in the hospital, more about his life was uncovered after that search of his apartment.
Rahami is a naturalized American citizen born in Afghanistan. The FBI found more bombs when they searched his apartment. He reportedly travelled to Afghanistan and Pakistan telling authorities “he had a wife in Pakistan.”
Right now they’re digging into his life online and those overseas trips, trying to find a motive and to make sure he was working alone.
“As we go forward in this investigation, that’s part of what we do. We’re going to talk to family, talk to friends and see what the connections are. This is part of an investigation,” said James P. O’Neill, NY Police Commissioner
A bar owner spotted Ahmed Rahami sleeping in the doorway of his tavern. He recognized him from watching the news and called police.
The two officers hurt in the shootout with him are recovering this morning. More charges could be coming for him as well.
Police do believe he is their “main guy” but the investigation continues into whether he had any help.
